People often ask what moves me to create such portraits of desperation. Yes, we have had our share of tragedies in the family and see suffering all around us everyday. Yet, it isn't just that which I wanted to highlight in these paintings, but also the inner strength and tenacity these "women of suffering" possess to keep trudging on to face life's ups and downs. It is a reflection of the women in my family I've looked up to - not because of their sufferings but for the manner and resolve in which they faced the normalities and adversities of life.
