Art Classes
Whether one is self-taught or a holder of several art degrees, the learning process never ends. The first time I took art classes at Guy Mason Studio Arts Center (http://www.guymasonstudioarts.com/), I had no clue how to handle paints, brushes, different types of medium, etc. I learned how to paint there, and through my late teacher, Sally Osborn, got acquainted and fell in love with colors. Other teachers who took over from Sally like James Phillips and Neil Joffe gave me invaluable comments and critiques.
In addition, I took drawing and painting classes for two years at the Washington Studio School (http://www.washingtonstudioschool.com/) which enhanced my skills and art awareness. I paint at home now but take art classes periodically. The quest for change and improvement must not cease lest one's art stagnates.
We are lucky to have several art schools in the Washington DC area including the Corcoran College of Art + Design and the Washington Studio School in the District, the Art League in Alexandria, VA, and the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD. There are many others, depending upon where you live. For those who want to be in a more relaxed environment and prefer not to spend a lot of money, Community Colleges and Recreation Centers (such as Guy Mason in the District of Columbia) are worth checking into.
